Pediatric Dental Sealants El Paso, TX

What Are Dental Sealants?
Questionable dietary choices and brushing habits aside, childhood can be a particularly cavity-prone period. Dental sealants are a preventive measure that can keep your child’s molars and premolars safe from tooth decay. The cusps on the chewing surfaces of these teeth can provide excellent places for plaque and food particles to accumulate, putting your child at a higher risk of dental problems.
The Sealant Application Process
Sealants are placed in a single office visit, usually when your child is between the ages of 6 and 12. This a layer of tooth-colored resin that is applied directly to the chewing surfaces of your child’s molars and premolars, effectively sealing out potentially harmful substances. In many cases, sealants can last up to ten years. However, depending on your child’s health, they may need to return for several treatments. The sealants only protect the chewing surfaces of the teeth, so your child will need to continue to brush their teeth twice a day and floss before going to bed.
